$5 Friday at Safeway on September 19th

Have you checked out the sales Safeway has going on $5 Fridays. Wowza! To take part in these great specials you will need a Safeway card.

I know that I will be taking part in this Friday's sales. Here is what I will buy. 3 pound of green or red grapes  $5.00 (I bought both the green and the red grapes last week and the green were hard and crunchy - Love them! The red grapes which are better for you - more nutrients are in the darker colored fruit - were not as tasty).

In addition, my daughter needs to eat more grass fed meat per her doctor to help keep her hormone level in check and this Friday 1 pound grass fed lean ground beef is only $5.00. Compared to Costco this is a steal (3 - 1 pound grass fed ground beef for $18.36). 2 pound of Tillamook cheese for $5.00 and Florida's Natural Orange Juice 89 oz. for $5.00.

Are you going to buy anything on $5 Friday?

Costco - great deal on Finish Dishwasher Detergent

I went to Costco the other day and when I entered the doors on my left was a display of Finish Dishwasher Detergent. A sign above it stated they were Buy 1 Get 1 FREE. WOW! - was my first thought, what a deal. You receive 110 tablets in each box, total would be 220 tablets. I know that this would last me at least a year since I don't do dishes everyday (I know I should probably do them more - but not going to happen) and if I replace my homemade dish tablets every other cycle I will be able to stretch the Finish even more. So I bought 2 boxes for $14.95.
I now have enough dishwasher detergent for awhile. The Costco sale runs through August 31, 2014.

Look what I ordered from iherb.com

A couple of my favorite online product companies are Amazon (a given) and iherb.com. I sometimes compare prices between both companies and today was no exception. I totally ran out of my tapioca flour and was going to buy on Amazon and it was going to be $27.94 for 4 packs of 20 oz. each. So I looked on iherb.com and whoa - it was only $17.43 for 4 packs of 20 oz. plus if I ordered over $20.00 I would receive free shipping. So of course I ordered 5 bags for a total of $21.95 which sure beats Amazon prices. Do you ever shop around for the best deal? Have you ever shopped at iherb.com? Try it you might find the prices better than somewhere else - here is a link for $10.00 off your first order. Come back and tell me what you bought.

Shark Vaccuum Deal of the Century

Boy did I find the sale of the century.

My parents have a Shark vacuum that they bought at Fred Meyers on sale.  I guess Shark's are the next best thing as a Dyson but more cost effective. Even though I don't have carpet anymore - this vacuum will work on hardwood floors just great and that is what I have throughout my house except
for an area rug in the living room (a Goodwill find)
and small kitchen rugs
(I know what you are thinking of - no you aren't seeing double - the rugs are the same color and style. I just bought the rugs new at Fred Meyer and the living room rug came from the Goodwill - awesome don't you think).

My daughter, E saw an informal commercial for the Shark - sounded like a great price so I called. The commercial made it sound like you got the accessories along with the vacuum. Except when I called they said the price of the vacuum and you got a FREE steam vac but it would cost you $19.99 for shipping (that didn't sound FREE to me). Then if I wanted the accessory kit it would be an additional $90.00 - WHOA - this is not the deal I wanted. So back to the drawing board on how to get a Shark at a reasonable price.

The other day while I was at work, E texted me to let me know that  QVC was offering the Shark for $164.80. I told her I would check it out when I got home and I did. The price included the accessory kit, so by the time I paid for shipping and tax it came to $196. Even though it is a lot of money, I stretched it out in 4 equal payments, so it won't make a huge debt, just a small debt.

66 quart air-tight container

While online looking for a airtight container to hold 25 - 50 pounds of flour (storing for future use) and 25 pound of sugar, I found a couple good options at Amazon.

This IRIS Airtight Pet Food Container, Navy Blue, 69 Quarts was listed for $31.99 and it will hold 50 pounds of dog food, so it should work for me.

But then I had an AHAH moment, so I ran downstairs to look at some of the storage units I had just purchased at the Goodwill and VOILA! A 69 quart container that I paid $3.99 for will solve the flour storage problem. YIPPEE!! and I saved a bucket load of money - my favorite past time. all I need to do now is take out the hangers (for the consignment shop) and clean inside and out. PERFECT.

Easy way to unstick a window or a door on a track!

Have you ever had a window or slider get stuck that it's almost impossible to open? Well this happens to me every few months to my sliding door. I don't know what happens - but I have a simple solution. Take an old taper candle (one that you don't want any more - since it will have a weird grove in it) and rub it over the track. This somehow lubricates it. Do it on both sides of the window or slider - I promise it will work. I know what you are thinking - sure, it will. But try it and see for yourself.

Lean ground beef (93/7) coming to the Pacific Northwest

Be on the lookout for Zaycon Foods coming to the Pacific Northwest. This time they are bringing lean (93/7) ground beef. You will need to order it in 40 pound increments. Comes in a 40-lb case with four 10-lb chubs per case. It seems a lot but you could split it with family or friends and this will help cut down the cost.

You will have to pick it up - but they have many locations around the Pacific Northwest to pick up your product. It is very easy to receive - you don't even need to get out of your car.

Crock Pot Teriyaki Chicken

I use Zaycon (https://zayconfoods.com/refer/zf2037 - referral code). Zaycon chicken is skinless and boneless breasts and comes in a 40 pound case. You pre-order your chicken and then pick it up at a location of your choice.

Before I place my chicken in Ziploc containers I cut the fat off, so it’s easy for me to thaw out individual chicken breast.

 Ingredients:
4 chicken breasts thawed or frozen
(I doubled the original recipe – this recipe is great for barbequing in the summer)
1 cup catsup
½ cup soy sauce (I used reduced sodium)
½ cup water (wine was in the original recipe)
1 tsp. ground ginger
2 TBSP honey or sugar
3 large garlics minced

Place chicken breasts in the bottom of your crock pot.

Add all other ingredients together and place over chicken.
I cook mine for 4 hours on low, but my crock pot seems to cook things extremely fast.  (All my crock pots have been the same). So I would check to see what the actual temperature of your specific crock pot cooks at.

After the chicken is done I dice up and I placed them back into the sauce in the crock pot to add some more flavor.

Then I placed ¾ to 1 cup in individual baggies and freeze.

Of course you have to wait until these cool down before placing in the freezer, so I put them in the cupboard away from little paws (2 kitties). Once they are cooled down I will place in the freezer until I need them.
When I take a salad to work I grab one of the baggies out of the freezer. These are great for me to take to work and warm up slightly in the microwave to take the chill off.

Organizing water bottles

Have you ever looked into your cupboard and realized - oh, my gosh, how did it become so crowded with water bottles. I have children Camelbaks, thermal travel bottles, Starbuck water containers, bottles with water filters, etc., etc., etc. Well a few days ago, I was reaching for a mug and had a hard time moving things around to actually find the one I wanted and thought to myself something has to be done about this mess. But, I wanted the bottles close so I wouldn't forget I had them.

I had seen an idea on Pinterest and thought wow, if I could find a over the door shoe organizer, I might be able to have all of my water containers out of my cupboard but be aware that I had them within reach if I needed any of them. A couple of weeks ago at the Goodwill, POOF - there was a brand new over the door shoe organizer for only $5.99. Of course, I grabbed it and held it close.

I brought it home and hung it on the bathroom door downstairs close to the kitchen.

Then I took all of the water bottles out of the cupboard and placed them inside the little pockets.

Wow - does it clean up the cupboard.

What do you think? Looks much nicer. Yes, I have a thing for Disney.

**Update - Make sure you can close the door before you start placing the water bottles in the shoe organizer. Our house is old and the shoe organizer was a great place to put the mugs, but then the door wouldn't close - what do you do. Well I have a storage shelving unit in my downstairs tub (we don't use it) and store extra food, it was the perfect space to put the unused water bottles. See for yourself below.
