The twins celebrated their second birthday in May and their mother, Niki decided it was going to have a Sesame Street themed birthday. Niki decided that Erika would make the cupcakes for the event. Erika went on Pinterest and YouTube to get ideas on how to make the requested cupcakes. Here is her version of the Sesame Street characters.
Here is how she did it:First she found two recipes online - one was for a white vanilla cupcake and the other was death by chocolate cupcake. After making the cupcake recipes she made a batch of the white vanilla recipe and made big and little cupcakes. Then she made the death by chocolate recipe and made big and little cupcakes.
Big cupcakes - colored paper
Little cupcakes - white paper
After baking and setting them up high so the Labrador could not reach them for an evening snack, she let them cool. While they cooled, she made homemade marshmallow fondant and the icing. Luckily we had gone to the store and picked up more powdered sugar (she went through at least 5 pounds of this).
Making Cookie Monster's "fur" just the right monster blue
She started making Cookie Monster first. She took a big cupcake (left the paper lining on) and a small cupcake (took lining off) and squeezed some white icing onto the small cupcake to adhere it to the big cupcake.
After they were adhered she iced around the small cupcake and
more icing added all over
then blended to make it smooth all over.

Putting black gel onto white candy melts for googly eyes.
She started some of the accessories -
the flat eyes for Cookie Monster and Elmo.
Made balls out of the marshmallow fondant and
then added pink and blue strips on top
and big round eyes and beak for Big Bird.
After creating the fur of Cookie Monster with a pastry bag full of blue icing and a tip she was ready to add the googly eyes.
Adding the cookie and
She then moved onto Big Bird and she did the same steps except
instead
of blue icing she piped yellow icing using
a different tip to create
feathers.
Black fondant was used for Elmo's mouth and a orange icing nose.
Voila! Final product. They were a great hit at the party.
