2nd week of Goodwill treasures
Today, January 5, 2014, my friend and I headed
towards a new Goodwill in Burien. We left on a cold 33° sunny day around 12:30
with a stop off at Starbucks for our traditional coffee. Then we hit I-5 going north. We were suppose
to stop off first in Federal Way but somehow while we were talking we totally
missed the exit. Have you ever done that before?
**Just a quick reminder of the Goodwill stores and
their pricing. Tacoma stores have Sunday’s and Monday’s a certain color tag is
$1.29 and another certain tag is 50% off all week. The Seattle stores only have
a certain tag 50% on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Then this tag goes
to $1.29 on Mondays.
So the first Goodwill stop was Des Moines and this
is what I bought for $14.68. 2 children’s sleepers at $2.00 each (green tag -
50% off), 1 Christmas dress at $1.29 (pink tag) for consignment, 1 children’s
hoodie sweatshirt at $1.29, 4 children hard cover books at $1.29 each and 1
educational 1st grade box by Lakeshore of the Human Body for $1.29
(consignment).
Second stop was Burien. The thrill of the hunt in
seeking out new Goodwill shopping ground is upon us as we ventured into this
store. I found: 1 children’s sleeper at $1.29, 1 dress at $1.50 (consignment),
1 Christmas jumper at $1.29 (consignment), 2 books at $.79 each, 1 bag of
ribbon 1.00 and 1 Mason jar at $.20. Total $7.48.
Again jumped on Highway 509 and was greeted with a
short cut to Seattle coming from behind the city onto the Deerborn Street
Goodwill. Here I found: 2 pairs of jeans for me at $4.00 (didn’t try them on
until I got home – need to lose a little buttocks jiggle), 1 Christmas overalls
at $2.00 (consignment), 1 dress for Kenz at $6.00, 1 hoodie sweatshirt at $2.50,
1 Bob’s children’s shoes at $6.00, 3 packages of parchment paper at $.99 each =
$2.97, 1 plastic tablecloth $.99 (to protect dining room table when doing art
projects), 1 rubber non slip yardage at $2.99, 2 books at $.79 and 1 book at
$.99. This came to a total of $36.79.
Next we hopped on I-90 which took us over Mercer
Island and then Highway 405 headed towards the Renton Goodwill. Sun was setting
and the sky was a hazy pink. You know that old saying: Pink sky at night,
sailors delight. And look what I found holiday brown tags 75% off. So I got 2
Christmas dresses – 1 at $1.50 and 1 at $1.25(consignment). I also found a
moose wreath for my door at school for $1.25. I bought 1 Sesame Street plastic
cup for $.50, a frog hook for $2.99.Total $8.39.
Our last stop of the night was Tukwila Goodwill and
by this time it was dusk and we encountered birds, birds and more birds. It
really was a fascinating encounter. Within a 2 block area birds were soaring
through the sky to perch on top of the trees. They were evenly spaced on the
light fixtures looming over intersections and buildings. Many of us in our cars
just stared through our windshields and tried to figure out where they were
coming from and where were they all going. As our car turned the corner towards
our destination, away from the busy intersections and lights from stores, we
found there weren’t any birds in sight.
Finally reaching our final destination we surveyed
the prospects and I found: 3 books at $.79 each = $2.37, 1 pack of plastic cups
at $.50 and 1 small Mason jar at $.20. Total was $ 3.35.
Not bad for $72.39. I was looking for 1 tall movable
shelf bookcase and 1 short squat bookcase both for school and lo and behold
neither were in sight, probably because I was looking for them. Oh, well
another day, another Goodwill.
