Mother's Day arrived bright and early Sunday morning. The dogs
bounded in at 7 full of energy and ready to play. No - I can sleep in. Finally
they left as they came in - noisy. Oh, well, decided to get up. I had a full day planned
any way - trying to get all the things I normally put off I finally I could do
today. No kids and not going to the Goodwill. Family didn't get together this Mother's Day - my sister was out of town, oldest daughter took her family to Sesame Street Live, my mom was resting after falling and bruising her foot, so it was decided to celebrate Mother's Day at a later date.
My day started with making a batch of coconut milk yogurt, a much
needed cup of coffee, laundry and a load of dishes all before 10:00. My
daughter, E and I decided to go to Home
Depot and price screen doors - yikes so many designs to chose from. My screen door in my garage has something eating the metal - time to get a new one. EWWWWW! Plus the front door screen door has lost it's weatherstripping on the bottom. So my idea is to move the front door screen to the garage and buy a new screen door for the front door. In
addition, I bought plumbing tubing to make the boys hula hoops for their birthday
coming up soon (details later).
Screen door being eaten by something!
On the way home stopped off at Fred Meyer and bought duck tape
(buy 1 get 1 free - this week). Also bought an orchid for my mom for Mother's
Day (she does wonders with orchids). Went home and swept all the dog hair off
the floor. Wow - I haven't seen my hard wood floors for awhile because of all
the hair. Just kidding - it wasn't that bad :).
Then went to my parent’s house and dropped off the orchid and
got started talking about plumbing issues. I have to replace one of my outside
faucets - cracked over the winter. Also am
thinking of redoing one of
my bathrooms. I would like to replace the old tub with a new soaking tub and
tile on the walls (I'd really like a claw foot tub- but that means reinforcing
the floor and other issues -$$$$$$$$). So am probably looking at a fiberglass
soaking tub.
Next drove to my oldest daughter's, N, to see the trees that were
cut down - wow it really opens it up now. They weren't home so, we detoured to
Ace Hardware for a new faucet then onto Big Lots for a stainless steel pot
(making homemade soap- recipe soon). Returned to my daughter’s
and measured her chain link fence again. I am going to figure out away to put
up a privacy fence and needed to have accurate measurements. Now I need to decide to build the whole fence or to do panels. Anyone know which would save time and money and be the most effective?
Came home and got stuff out to make the soap. My daughter, E-
wanted to make citrus soap. So we did our best and probably next time won't use
the cocoa butter – smell was too strong. We were dumping
a humongous amount of Essential Oils into the pot to get some citrus fragrance.
Hopefully it will be what she wanted. She also grated citrus to add the zest to
the soap.
After the soap was made she cut up the naked orange, lemon and
grapefruit and added to water and created citrus water which is good for
hydration.
Grapefruit was too much for me - too strong.
Finally I went outside to get more weeding done and to see what I
need to get planted and where things were going to go in this year.
That was my Mother’s Day – hope you had a great day and got all
the things done you planned.
