How to make a Hula Hoop
Before Christmas, I was looking for a tutorial on
how to make a hula hoop for the twins (19 months old) and found this site www.jasonunbound.com/hoops.html.
It was very helpful.
Made these again this week for the twins' second birthday. I made them in solid color - one is blue and one is green. These will stay at their house. Great toy for outside. Also this helps with motor skills.

I went to Home Depot and bought 25’ of coiled 3/4” PVC
piping, it cost $14.95 and 2 plastic 3/4” connectors and of course kid themed (Superman
and Batman) duct tape at $5.95 each (Fred Meyer has duct tape through May 17th - buy one get one free - good time to buy) .
Then I measured Kenz’s hula hoop and made the boys
smaller which happened to coil at that size. Took my hack saw and cut the ends.
Then I attached the connector at both ends.
Started the duct tape at an angle and wrapped it all the way around. The duct tape was a struggle because I was trying to lay it flat, of course it had a mind of its own and had some wrinkling happening, but it bothered me more than the boys.
They love their own hula hoops. It is so fun to watch them –
they get inside and turn the hoop and
then dance after the hoop has fallen.
To make these wasn't cost effective, but they are definitely
personable and more heavy duty than the store bought ones.
You probably could find cheaper PVC piping and definitely buy the duct tape this week at Fred Meyer - B1G1 - this will keep the cost done for sure.
**UPDATE: I made a few more hula hoops for the twins' birthday. I wanted to mention from my experience when making hula hoops it is better to use a print duct tape than a solid color. The print tape doesn't show the bubbles as much.
